Mary Ann Smith, lecturer of biology at Penn State Schuylkill, has received grant funds to support and grow native plant and pollinator populations on campus. The added biodiversity will help combat food insecurity and position Penn State Schuylkill to become a certified Level I arboretum, a project Smith hopes to see completed by the end of the year.
Penn State Schuylkill head athletic trainer Kate Fullerton had a lifelong ambition to be a member of the U.S. military. So, in 2018 she joined the United States Army Reserves. This month, Fullerton prepares to depart on her first deployment — a yearlong mission in Cuba.
One of Schuylkill County’s own is set to receive the Penn State Alumni Association Alumni Fellow Award. William Terrill, a leading expert and professor in the field of criminology and criminal justice, also will participate in various speaking engagements on campus in advance of the Oct. 6 award ceremony at University Park.
Penn State Schuylkill has named more than 200 students as spring 2021 Dean’s List designees. To earn a dean’s list designation, students must end the semester with a 3.5 GPA or higher. The campus celebrated the students’ accomplishments at a ceremony held on Monday, Oct. 4, in the Morgan Auditorium.
Penn State Schuylkill students now have the opportunity to pursue a bachelor of science in information technology, with five options available to tailor their degree to their career interests. The new four-year degree will prepare students for in-demand jobs such as web and application development, programming, systems analysis, network engineering, database administration, IT support and more.

An Amazon Hub Locker has been installed at Penn State Schuylkill near its Nittany Apartments. These lockers — one of residential students’ most-requested amenities — will provide students with an option for secure package drop off and pick up access at any time.
A new bachelor of science degree in information technology will be offered beginning in the fall 2021 semester. The degree will replace the existing bachelor of science degree in information sciences and technology, which will be phased out over the next four years.
