Campuses provided regional training to help save costs

Over 100 Housing and Food Services employees from seven eastern commonwealth campuses met at Penn State Schuylkill for technical service training. The regional daylong event was an effort to provide training for employees while exercising cost saving initiatives. Event speakers included Schuylkill chancellor Keith Hillkirk, Auxiliary and Business Services (A&BS) safety/workers' compensation manager Ed Dobo, A&BS human resources director Jennifer Wilkes, Food Services executive chef Mark Kowalski and several more.

Schuylkill Campus Choir to perform Holiday Concert

Penn State Schuylkill Choir Director, Chris Evans, and the Penn State Schuylkill Choir will be performing a Holiday Concert on Monday evening, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Penn State Schuylkill Campus John E. Morgan Auditorium in the Student/Community Center. All Penn State Schuylkill faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.  The concert is open to the public as well.  

Fall 2009 Commencement Speaker Announced

Penn State Schuylkill will be holding Fall 2009 graduation on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the John E. Morgan Auditorium.  Dr. W. Terrell Jones, Ed.D., Vice Provost for Educational Equity will be the keynote speaker.

Safe Trick or Treat Held at Schuylkill

On Wednesday, October 28th, the Adult Student Organization sponsored a Safe Trick or Treat Night on campus for children of Penn State Schuylkill students, faculty & staff as well as the children from the campus community.  The event was very successful with over 300 children attending this event. Schuylkill one of the Choirs from six Penn State campuses to 'Raise the Song'

Choirs from six Penn State campuses will "Raise the Song!" in a free public concert Oct. 28 at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg. The landmark event for the University and Penn State Harrisburg will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Sunoco Performance Theater. Tickets and information are available by calling 717-948-6470.

WPSU-TV wins two Emmy awards

WPSU, Penn State's public broadcasting station, announced Monday (Sept. 28) that it has earned two 2009 Mid-Atlantic Emmy awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for shows "Making the Blue Band" and "Cook Like a Chef." These regional awards recognize local productions for excellence in television programming.

Assistant professor in IST wins Amazon Web Service grant

Elinor Madigan, assistant professor of information sciences and technology at Penn State Schuylkill and a professional associate of management development, has been awarded a grant from Amazon Web Service (AWS). The grant will be used in her IST 421 class -- "Advanced Enterprise Integration: Technologies and Applications" -- and will allow students to access AWS's infrastructure Web service platform in the cloud.  

Penn State President helps Schuylkill kickoff 75th anniversary celebration

On Tuesday, September 23rd, Penn State President Graham B. Spanier, along with Chancellor R. Keith Hillkirk and SGA President Jarret Robinson served students, faculty, staff, administration and guests of the campus, cake and ice cream on the campus green.  The celebration was held as a kickoff of a years' worth of activites that have been planned in honor of the campus' 75th anniversary.
