Mr. Robert Stickloon wins award at Art of the State 2014

Mr. Robert Stickloon, instructor in Art at Penn State Schuylkill, won the William D. Davis Memorial Award for Drawing on June 21 at the 47th Annual Juried Exhibition, Art of the State 2014, that was held at the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. His winning piece, graphite and charcoal on paper, titled "My Dad's Plane," was one of 122 pieces of art displayed at the exhibition that were chosen from 1772 entries.

Art of the StateĀ® is a state-sponsored, juried competition that is open to Pennsylvania artists. Entries are accepted in five categories: Craft, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, and Work on Paper. Mr. Stickloon also had another piece chosen for display at the exhibit; "Motorcycle Jacket" is oil on canvas piece that measures 58x36 inches.

Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett was present at the exhibition and helped select the Purchase Award recipients. She is a strong supporter of the arts and chairs the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Mr. Stickloon enjoyed discussing his work with Mrs. Corbett as she reviewed all of the displays.

The 122 works of art, including Mr. Stickloon's winning piece, will be on display at the State Museum of Pennsylvania until September 14, and both of his pieces are available for purchase at the exhibit.
