We have all heard the slogan in regards to not
drinking and driving, but did you know that texting and driving is just as
serious? According to the National Safety Council, approximately 23 percent of
all crashes - or 1.2 million crashes - each year are caused by drivers using
their handheld or hands-free cell phones and texting while driving. This is much
greater than the number of crashes caused by any other distraction
Shroud Encounter will be coming to Penn State University—Schuykill Campus on Wednesday, April 20th, at 7:00 PM. This highly acclaimed 90-minute multi-media presentation will be held at the Morgan Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
Shroud Encounter is a production of Shroud of Turin Education Project, Inc. and will be presented by renowned international expert Russ Breault. The presentation is a fast moving, big-screen experience using over 150 images covering all aspects of Shroud research.
Penn State Schuylkill will be holding graduation on Saturday, May 14,
2011 at 10:00 am on the Campus Green. John Hillkirk, the Editor at USA TODAY will be the keynote Speaker. In case of inclement weather the commencement ceremonies will be held in the gymnasium.
Penn State Schuylkill's Nittany Players are preparing to perform "The Wiz," April 14 through 17
in the John E. Morgan Auditorium.
"The Wiz" is a children's show, something that people of all ages could enjoy. "The Wiz" is a funky musical version of the L. Frank Baum story "The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz," telling the story of Dorothy, a Kansas farm girl, who
is lifted to the land of Oz by a tornado. She meets a few friends, including a
scarecrow, tin man and lion, as she follows the yellow brick road in search of
the wizard who will help her get home.

The tradition continues this year with the CHAOS ON THE COURT: Penn State
Schuylkill's 2nd Annual Students vs. Faculty/Staff Volleyball Game. The
event will be held on Sunday, April 10 at 4pm in the Gym.
In the fall of 2010, the Office of the University Registrar
released new functionality for students and parents in eLion. With the consent
of their student, parents may view their student's course schedule and grades
via the eLion Parent/Other menu. Set-up is simple and instructions were
included in announcements which were shared widely in September.
Feb. 22 marked the date that Penn State was founded in 1855 as a publicly
supported agricultural college. In 1863, Penn State was designated as
Pennsylvania's land-grant college -- a distinction that only Penn State holds
and a designation that created a university to educate large segments of society
that had not yet been served by higher education.
The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), Central Pennsylvania
Section will hold its spring workshop at Penn State Schuylkill on Friday, March
11. This workshop will be a sharing of methods and ideas for physics or physical
science teachers of all experience levels. It will focus on how we can use the
idea of an engineering project to learn basic physics concepts.
