Unizin Engage pilot helps students with textbook affordability

Several campuses across Penn State have participated in a pilot that tackles the age-old problem of how to make textbooks more affordable and also helps students become more successful in the classroom. During the past fall and current spring semesters, faculty at the Penn State Worthington Scranton, Schuylkill and Mont Alto campuses have utilized the e-text platform called Unizin Engage, and it has the potential to transform the future of affordable content at Penn State.

Penn State Schuylkill names new interim director of academic affairs

Cory Scherer, assistant director of academic affairs, program coordinator for psychology, and associate professor of psychology at Penn State Schuylkill, has been named interim director of academic affairs at the Schuylkill campus, effective July 1. Scherer has been serving as assistant director of academic affairs since his appointment to the position in July 2017.

An uplifting trip: Habitat for Humanity Portugal

Nine Penn State students from three different campuses — Schuylkill, University Park and Harrisburg — were charged with helping to build the exterior walls for a home of three in the city of Amarante in the northern Portuguese district of Porto, where they discovered, “Te deixas sempre um pouco de ti e lleas also contigo” — "You always leave a bit of you and always take something with you." The students traveled to Portugal as part of a Habitat for Humanity International Global Village Trip to Amarante, Portugal, May 5-14, thanks to a grant from Penn State's Student Engagement Network.
