If you love a good challenge and want to prepare yourself for a wide variety of careers in science, Penn State Schuylkill’s B.S. in Biology may be your perfect fit.

About Penn State Schuylkill’s B.S. in Biology

Biology is the scientific study of life: the diversity and organization of organisms, from single-celled bacteria to multi-cellular plants and animals, including humans. Your academic experience at Penn State Schuylkill will include hands-on learning, from designing and conducting lab experiments to making field observations, using many different procedures and instruments. And you'll be able to customize your Biology degree with four different options for specialization across a variety of areas of contemporary biology, including: 

General Biology 

Study various areas of modern biology.

Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior

Explore the theoretical, practical, and applied ecology and evolution of plants and animals.

Genetics and Developmental Biology

Delve into the genetics and developmental biology of plants and animals.

Vertebrate Physiology

Focus on animal physiology and anatomy to prepare for a career in medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, and animal physiology.

Undergraduate Research

As an undergraduate Biology student at Penn State Schuylkill, you'll have the opportunity to conduct meaningful research with world-class faculty leading the charge in decoding:

  • honey bee colony decline,
  • gray catbird behavioral patterns,
  • natural antibiotic generation,
  • algae and its impact on water systems,
  • and so much more.

Beta Beta Beta, the National Biological Honor Society

In the Biology major at Penn State Schuylkill, we value and acknowledge the great work of our student scholars. Our campus is the home of Theta Chi Theta, the Schuylkill chapter of Beta Beta Beta, the national biological honor society. This student group and honor society is for academically high-achieving Biology students and offers students the opportunity to travel for conferences and field experiences.

Penn State Schuylkill Biology graduates are well-prepared to secure advanced degrees through graduate study, work with various governmental agencies or industries having biological responsibilities, and build careers in medicine or other health-related professions.
