About Penn State Schuylkill's B.S. in Business
Students first complete basic and intermediate core business courses including accounting, economics, management information systems, marketing, business logistics, and finance. You'll then have the opportunity to choose between four 18-credit specializations to tailor your education to your specific interests:
Accounting Option
Accounting focuses on the development and interpretation of financial information critical to managerial decision-making. This option provides students with the skills and knowledge to pursue careers in business with an emphasis on the areas of financial and managerial accounting, systems and controls, auditing, and taxation. At graduation, students are prepared to sit for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam, a certification that will help you stand out from the competition.
Health Services Option
Healthcare is one of the largest industries in the United States, and the demand for skilled managers and administrative professionals within the field is growing. Penn State Schuylkill's Business - Health Services option allows you to tailor your business degree so you graduate ready to begin a career path to roles such as hospital administrator, practice manager, nursing home manager, medical records manager, and more.
Marketing/Management Option
This coursework emphasizes management and marketing skills and knowledge necessary for the business professional to function in the business world of today.
Individualized Option
Students develop a program of study based on their specific career needs, with approval from a faculty advisor. Such individualized programs of study prepare students for a variety of business careers including opening and running a small business.
Internships and Co-Op
We prepare our students for the job market and include a one-semester internship as part of the curriculum. For those students wanting an even richer career-focused experience, students majoring in business will be eligible to participate in Penn State Schuylkill Co-Op, starting in Fall 2020. Business majors have completed internships in a variety of businesses and organizations, such as:
