Course Offerings

Spanish for the Workplace I

This course is designed to cover basic conversational Spanish for individuals who wish to communicate more effectively with co-workers, customers, clients, patients, and patients’ families.

Dates: March 20, 2025 - May 15, 2025 
Times: Thursdays, 5:30 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. (Last class on 5/15/25 will be 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.)  
Location: Online instructor-led training via Zoom
Investment: $359 per person

Spanish for the Workplace II

This course builds upon the skills learned in the level I course. Attendees should already have a basic knowledge of Spanish either from the level I course or from personal experience. Conversation will figure largely into the class sessions. Students will focus on more complex grammar topics (e.g., ser vs. estar; por vs. para) as well as verb tenses other than the present.

Spanish for Healthcare Workers (SPAN 5018)

(Hello, my name is Pat and I will be your nurse)

Spanish for Healthcare Workers is an entry-level course designed to help medical professionals communicate effectively through conversational competence with Spanish-speaking patients in a medical setting.

By the end of the course, students will learn how to:

  • Apply medical vocabulary in routine medical situations.

  • Write notes and simple treatment recommendations/directions.

  • Demonstrate basic understanding of some Hispanic/Latino cultural medical practices and the patient-doctor dynamic and relationship.

  • Describe signs and symptoms from the most common diseases in the United States

  • Demonstrate basic skills to conduct a patient interview in Spanish.

Meet the instructor:

Maria T. Berger holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology &
Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. Berger is experienced in teaching Spanish language courses at Higher Education Level for more than a decade, including  in person, hybrid, and online courses modalities. Berger has also served as an interpreter for Spanish speaker patients in the mental health field.

Dates: January 14 - March 18, 2025
Time: Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Delivery: live instruction via Zoom classroom
Textbook: Access to an eBook and four months of unlimited access to online educational materials are included with the registration fee.
