TIMELY WARNING

Possible Threat to the Community
"Your Right to Know"
Date: August 30, 2014

REPORTED OFFENSE: A rape/sexual assault was reported to have occurred in the University's residence hall, known as the Nittany Apartments, sometime between approximately 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014. The residence hall is located in the Penn State Schuylkill Nittany Apartments, adjacent to University Drive.

SUSPECTS: The suspect, a student, is a known acquaintance of the reported victim. The victim, a student, reported that they were sexually assaulted sometime between approximately 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014.   

It can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the University community. It is the duty of the institution to warn of possible "dangerous conditions" on or near the campus, and at affiliate organizations off campus; an "affirmative duty" exists to warn persons associated with this University of possible peril at the hands of some third party or parties. 

CRIME PREVENTION TIPS:
In an effort to reduce your risk of becoming a victim, please keep these tips in mind:
?        When you go out, check in with a friend or family member throughout the night.
?        Don't let yourself become isolated with someone you don't know or trust.
?        Trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe, get to a safe place and call for help.
?        Do not accept rides or walking accompaniment from people you don't know well and trust.
?        Take money for a taxi with you, or when on campus, contact campus police to request an on-campus escort at 570-385-6144 or 570-628-3792.
