Penn State Schuylkill will be holding Fall 2010 graduation on Thursday,
December 16, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gymnasium, Lower Level of the Health and Wellness Building. Steven and Marjorie Cotler will be the keynote speakers.
The Cotlers have earned the title, "Mr. and Mrs. Excitement" as a result of their low key, behind the scenes approach to just about everything in business and life. When asked to provide this bio they as usual expressed their desire to remain under the radar. They believe that the highest form of giving is to give without the need for recognition, but the honor of giving this year's commencement address calls for a bit of biography!
Steve was born and grew up in Schuylkill County. He attended The Pottsville Public schools, Wyoming Seminary, Randolph Macon College and Temple University. After eight years of working in sales in the Midwest, he returned to Pottsville, Pa. to operate several family businesses and become involved with many aspects of Schuylkill county life: He has served as president of The Pottsville Downtown Association, The Historical Review Board, and The Schuylkill County Council for the Arts. Amongst his many leadership roles in county projects are the restoration of the Henry Clay Monument, the design and construction of Bicentennial Park, and the founding of the annual Youth Conference on Diversity. Steve has been awarded the Torch of Liberty Award, The Winter Carnival outstanding citizen award, and many business accolades. Steve is always active behind the scenes, but when it comes to Penn State Schuylkill he openly serves on the Advisory Board and has gifted the campus through several projects including the Cotler Computer lab, and classroom restoration project.
Marjorie grew up in Massachusetts, and arrived in Schuylkill County thanks to Steve. She is a graduate of Boston University, and before working in the family businesses in Schuylkill County, worked as a Teacher and in sales. She has been active in Oheb Zedeck Synagogue, teaching Sunday school and serving as president of the congregation. For the past seven years she has been on the Schuylkill campus every second semester to help direct the Penn State Schuylkill Campus musical theater production.
Steve and Marjorie have been married for 39 years, have two sons Zach and Sam, a collie named Beauty, and a 25 year old turtle named Floyd.
