Charles Cantalupo, distinguished professor of English, comparative literature and African studies at Penn State Schuylkill, will be hosting a reading and book signing of his recent release "Joining Africa: From Anthills to Asmara," at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in The Ciletti Library on the campus of Penn State Schuylkill.
This eye-opening personal history tells the story of an American college professor's 20 year engagement with a thriving Africa rarely encountered by Western visitors. The book, which is adventurous, spiritual, political and humorous all at once, is a unique documentary of a journey through the continent. The Africa presented here is neither a postcolonial study nor an exotic tourist destination. In vibrant prose, Cantalupo's book extends a stirring invitation to re-evaluate how we engage with this remarkable part of the world.
