Penn State Schuylkill athletic director selected to Hall of Fame

John Cooper, class of 1971, will be formally inducted into The Shenandoah Valley High School Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, August 30, 2013.

The standout athlete in three sports was the starting quarterback/defensive back under Geno Poli in his junior and senior years. He holds the record for the longest kickoff return in school history at eighty-nine yards against Panther Valley.

He was voted All-Anthracite first team by the Reading Eagle and was a key sixth man for coach Jack Babinchak's District 11 Class B championship basketball team in 1970.

Cooper was also Shenandoah Valley's scholar athlete in 1971.

In track, he ran the 440 hurdles in 1971 and was the first standout athlete to come from Frackville since the merger in 1968.
