Tom Verducci, senior writer at Sports Illustrated, featured speaker at gala

The 80th Anniversary Committee at Penn State Schuylkill will be hosting a gala for the local community at the Schuylkill Country Club on November 6 at 6:00 p.m. The Gala is the culmination of a year-long celebration of the 80th anniversary of Penn State Schuylkill.

The committee is pleased to announce that the featured guest speaker for the evening will be Tom Verducci, senior writer at Sports Illustrated, and a 1982 graduate of Penn State University. He has been writing for Sports Illustrated since 1993, and prior to that, he spent ten years as a sports reporter for Newsday, serving as its news columnist from 1990-1993. Verducci also works as a lead color commentator for Fox Sports, alongside Joe Buck and Harold Reynolds, and will call his first World Series game this year. Verducci's landmark cover piece in 2002 about steroids changed the baseball landscape forever. He has profiled Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sandy Koufax, and Ted Williams, among other baseball subjects.

An additional highlight of Gala will be a silent auction that will feature items such as a football helmet autographed by Penn State Head Football Coach James Franklin, a week stay at a beachfront condo in Ocean City, Maryland, a one month membership for two at Re-Cycle Sports, and much more.

Individuals can attend the Gala for $80, and that covers the $50 cost for dinner, and a $30 donation. All proceeds from the Gala will benefit a Schuylkill County student attending Penn State Schuylkill.
