The Paterno family and Penn State University have a long and generous history of supporting Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. Each year they host the Annual Paterno Family Beaver Stadium Run during Blue and White Weekend. This event raises funds to benefit Special Olympics of Pennsylvania and nearly 20,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
This year, the Paterno family is expanding their reach by including Penn State Schuylkill as the first Commonwealth campus to host a 5K the same weekend, Saturday, April 18, 2015! All of the money raised by the participants in the Paterno Family Island 5K Run will be used to support Special Olympics of Schuylkill County.
The Schuylkill Haven Recreation Department is proud to partner with Special Olympics of Schuylkill County and Penn State Schuylkill to provide a beautiful park and course route. Island Park is an ideal location where runners will start and end the race. The course route will include a brisk run through a quiet neighborhood in Schuylkill Haven.
