Penn State Schuylkill to host new Smithsonian exhibit, 'Outbreak'

Penn State Schuylkill will host the new Smithsonian Exhibit, “Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World,” for a three-month period beginning Oct. 1. The Smithsonian’s exhibit exploring the origins of zoonotic disease and humans’ role in spreading animal-borne viruses will be available for a three-year period.

Future engineer certain to rock the world and transform lives

Kelsey Shaffer is an ambitious undergraduate student who serves in the Army National Guard. A mechanical and nuclear engineering double-major and president of Penn State Schuylkill's Engineering Club, her penchant for service and problem-solving extend from her country to the classroom.

An uplifting trip: Habitat for Humanity Portugal

Nine Penn State students from three different campuses — Schuylkill, University Park and Harrisburg — were charged with helping to build the exterior walls for a home of three in the city of Amarante in the northern Portuguese district of Porto, where they discovered, “Te deixas sempre um pouco de ti e lleas also contigo” — "You always leave a bit of you and always take something with you." The students traveled to Portugal as part of a Habitat for Humanity International Global Village Trip to Amarante, Portugal, May 5-14, thanks to a grant from Penn State's Student Engagement Network.
