Spring 2009 Commencement Speaker Announced

Penn State Schuylkill will be holding graduation on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 10:00 am on the Campus Green.  Dr. James T. Gallagher, Superintendent, Pottsville Area School District will be the keynote speaker.  Musical soloist will be Janelle Hoenich and Banner Bearers will be Dr. Gordon Nelson and Dr. Michael Gallis.  In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the John E. Campus to Hold Honors Day April 23

Penn State Schuylkill will hold an Honors Day ceremony on April 23, 2009 at 5 pm in the John E. Morgan Auditorium.  Honors Day is intended to recognize members of our campus community, including students, faculty and staff who have distinguished themselves through accomplishments in teaching and learning, scholarship and research, and service to the campus community.

Religious and Philosophical Forum Presents "Is Anybody Listening"

On Friday, April 24, 2009 at 12 noon in the R. Michael Fryer Conference Center, the Religious and Philosophical Forum will present This month's forum is entitled: "Is Anyone Listening?  The Strained Voice(s) of the Church in Today's Culture" and it will be presented by Dr. Kenneth H. Miller, Professor of Christian Theology at Evangelical Theological Seminary in Myerstown, PA.  

Los Angeles Studio Musician To Present Concerts at Penn State Schuylkill

Pianist and keyboard specialist Gary Nesteruk, a leading Los Angeles studio musician for more than twenty five years, will be appearing in concert at The Pennsylvania State University Schuylkill Campus on Wednesday, April 29, at 7:30 PM.  Nesteruk will also present a lunchtime lecture and performance on April 29 at 11:45 A.M.  Both performances will take place in the Morgan Auditorium on the Penn State Schuylkill Campus. Both performances are FREE and open to the public.

The Penn State Schuylkill Scholarship Dinner Held

The Penn State Schuylkill Scholarship Dinner was held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Schuylkill Country Club. There were 125 donors/student recipients in attendance at this annual event. The guest speaker was Gary Fenstermacher, PhD. , Professor Emeritus, University of Michigan. The student speaker was Jessica Fehr, Schuylkill Health School of Nursing, who was a previous scholarship recipient.

3 PSU-Schuylkill softball players named All-PSUAC

Penn State Schuylkill softball players Trish Clemas, Carrie Beckett and Katie Malone have been named to the Penn State University Athletic Conference all-league team. Clemas, a senior shortstop from Pottsville, made the first team.  Beckett, a senior pitcher from North Schuylkill, and Malone, a senior first baseman from Blue Mountain, received honorable mention.

Spring 2009 Commencement Held

Dr. R. Keith Hillkirk, presided over Spring commencement at the Penn State Schuylkill Campus on Saturday, May 16, 2009.  The commencement ceremony was held on the campus green.  Thirty three students graduated, 30 receiving bachelor's degrees, two getting master's degrees and one receiving a doctorate.

Gallis receives grant for physics animations

Penn State Outreach has announced that Michael R. Gallis, assistant professor of physics has been selected as faculty lead of the Physics Asset Project. The project centers around the development of curricular materials based on Gallis' animations for high school and introductory college level physic courses and disseminating these materials via the world wide web. The emphasis will be on addressing state and national standards.

If every on-campus student at University Park reduced his or her time in the shower by just five minutes, Penn State would save 100,000 gallons of water each school year. That is enough to fill five swimming pools and lower the University's carbon footprint by 18,980 pounds every year.

Salih Can receives award from NEACJS

Salih Can, assistant professor of public affairs at Penn State Schuylkill, has received The Emerging Scholar Award from The Northeastern Association of Criminal Justice Sciences (NEACJS), the second largest criminal justice association in North America.
