Local author and entrepreneur Heather Christie shares her path to publication for her debut novel What the Valley Knows. Heather grew up in rural Pennsylvania and at age 17 took off to New York City in hopes of becoming a movie star. Flash forward several decades, a couple degrees, a bunch of cats, two kids and one husband later, she’s back in Pennsylvania as a published author.

Heather will share her story of the trials and challenges it took her on the journey to get published, offer tips to budding writers and offer resources she wished she would have had along the way. 

A book signing and sale will follow ($15; cash, check and credit cards accepted).

Protecting Your Ideas: Intellectual Property Basics

Whether you are an artist, musician, or entrepreneur safeguarding your ideas is essential. In this introductory session, attendees will learn the basics of intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets) including what you can and cannot protect and the limits to your legal rights.

Rachel Herder is an assistant professor of clinical law and the director of the Intellectual Property Clinic at Penn State Law - University Park. The Intellectual Property (IP) Clinic trains outstanding intellectual property lawyers by having law students counsel Pennsylvania innovators, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and early-stage start-ups in intellectual property strategy.
