How it works

Penn State Schuylkill's Dual Enrollment Majors are open to high school seniors and run the duration of the school year. Beginning in the fall, participants attend classes at Penn State Schuylkill during a portion of their regular school day. Upon completing their Penn State classes for the day, students return to their respective high schools. Students provide their own transportation to and from Penn State Schuylkill.

Time on campus includes built-in prep time before courses begin. Students also take part in weekly guest lectures with subject matter experts, including Penn State faculty members and local professionals, who take a deep dive into the chosen area of study. The coursework, guest lectures, and hands-on experience in each Dual Enrollment subject area provide students the core competencies they need to pursue a degree in their field.

Take advantage of opportunities and resources only available to Penn Staters

  • Experience college courses taught by Penn State faculty on a college campus.
  • Explore majors and careers in your area of interest prior to high school graduation.
  • Get access to on-campus resources, including tutoring, academic advising, Penn State libraries, computer facilities, and our Career Development Center.
  • Complete required general education courses before high school graduation.
  • Earn college credits at a reduced tuition rate.
    • Credits can be applied to a Penn State degree at any Penn State campus.
    • Credits also may be considered for transfer to another institution.
    • Courses students take as part of the Dual Enrollment Program correlate to specific degree programs at Penn State Schuylkill, allowing students to get a head start on a Penn State degree.

Earn college credit from Penn State

Program participants are officially enrolled at Penn State Schuylkill and receive a 50 percent tuition reduction. Participating students will enroll in a total of three to four Penn State credits (one class) per semester, earning six to eight Penn State credits upon completion.

Dual enrollment students receive course grades that are added to an official college transcript, as opposed to an AP course that uses a standardized exam to dictate the credit being awarded.

Students are responsible for the cost of all Penn State college credits and any additional fees, which may include required textbooks, fees, etc.
