Military appreciation activities scheduled for week of Nov. 6

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — The Penn State Schuylkill community has held a Veterans Day ceremony since 2005. A new tradition will begin this year that includes multiple events taking place throughout the week of Veterans Day, Monday through Friday, Nov. 6-10.

The inaugural Military Appreciation Week kicks off with students, faculty and staff lining the campus mall walk with flags in honor of those who serve or previously served in the United States military.

The annual Veterans Day ceremony honors campus and local community veterans as well as active members of the United States military. The event will take place at noon on Nov. 10 at the Schuylkill County Veterans Memorial site, located adjacent to the campus entrance. Lunch will immediately follow in Room 201 of the Health and Wellness Building. The ceremony and lunch are both free and open to the public.

A Stockings for Soldiers collection drive begins Nov. 6 and extends beyond the Military Appreciation Week to Nov. 17. Bins will be located at high-traffic areas throughout campus for people who wish to donate holiday items that have been requested by troops or their families. For a listing of items, visit the Keystone Military Stockings for Soldiers Program Facebook page.

Visit the Penn State Schuylkill Military Appreciation Week webpage for a complete listing of the week's activities.
